When people think of modern design, a lot of times the space envisioned is cold, uninviting, or looks “unlived in”. It does not have to be. Cozy modern is the combination of a modern aesthetic with a lived in and homey feel. The design style is built on the base of modern design (clean lines, functionality, open spaces, and natural light). After the purpose is established, then the cozy elements are added (layering in texture, natural materials, lots of soft textiles, pillows, artwork and decor, personal elements, and accent lighting). Do not add too many of these additional elements. The key is to keep the space simplistic, but comfortable and inviting. 

Design Tip: To make your home more cozy modern, think about making your space personal to you. What do you love in a room, what makes it home? Start with the basics you need for any modern room design and layer in the items that make it yours: that knit throw blanket you love, the gallery wall of family portraits, the vintage rug you found on a vacation, etc.. To instantly bring a more cozy feeling add these essentials to your space: great accent lighting, plants, cozy textile layers, curtains, different texture and materials, and personal elements.
