A nursery is a special intimate place to be filled with new moments and memories, but it also has to be functional and super durable. Those special moments also come with lots of big messes. So here are some of the personal, but practical details I made to create this space starting from the ground up:
The Rugs: 2 layered rugs from Surya and Safavieh. Both rugs are 100% wool, a natural but durable material that won’t release harmful chemicals into the air. I layered both rugs on top of a thick felt rug pad so that the space has extra cushion for little feet.
The Swivel Glider and Ottoman: I came across this comfortable piece at a thrift store and had it re-upholstered in 2 fabrics to compliment the softness in the room. A chair with some motion is essential for those late night feedings. The ottoman is a vintage Vanguard piece with a super soft tufted top and durable velvet upholstery.
The Lamp and Nightstand: I came across this vintage upholstery Vanguard nightstand and fell in love. The nail heads added the perfect detail to compliment the space. The lamp is also a vintage handmade piece I came across at an estate sale.
The Crib: I opted for the Greenguard certified daVinci Crib. A simple product, it checked all the boxes and the lovely spindle design was just what I was looking for.
The Paint and Wallpaper: Sherwin Williams is always my go to! Their designer paint line in Copen Blue was the perfect mix of soft, happy, and bright. By painting the trim and ceiling all the same color, the space feels a bit more cohesive. The trim was also added to give an upgraded custom look.
The wallpaper is peel and stick from York Wallcovering. The animal print makes me happy and the peel stick is always a great option for transitional spaces. I am sure in a couple years Vivi will have her own thoughts on the wallpaper, so selecting something that could be swapped out was the best move in the space.
The Final Touches: The cross-stitched throw blanket was my baby blanket from my grandmother, I can’t wait to use it with Vivi. No space is complete without a little whimsy so the absurdly oversized animals were the perfect choice in the space. Finally, no peaceful room is complete without a bit of green. Amazingly I have kept this gorgeous palm plant alive for over a year, so hopefully it likes its new home.
